2025 Inspiring Hope WalkWinifred and her Happy

There are many whimsical names for a group of Golden Retrievers - some call them a halo, some a happy, others refer to the puppies as a snuggle. Anyone who knows a Golden knows the truth: they are the definition of unconditional love.

Our girl Winifred is a six-year-old, tri-pawd, bossy, brave-hearted chondrosarcoma warrior. She’s not just our dog—she’s our light, our compass, and our reminder to live fully.

Czar’s Promise has played an essential role in our journey. Their compassion and support have helped keep our family hopeful and whole through some of our toughest days. That’s why this fundraiser means the world to us. We’d be grateful if you could join us in raising money for this incredible cause.

Why the name Winifred?

I never knew what would come from her name...Most people assume she’s named after Winifred Sanderson from Hocus Pocus—especially because of her gorgeous red coat. But the real inspiration is Winnie Foster from Tuck Everlasting. I loved the name, but I never realized that it would be the perfect fit.

In the book, Winnie is offered the chance to drink from a magical spring and live forever. She struggles with the decision, and ultimately chooses to live one full, beautiful, finite life.

Eventually her gravestone would be engraved with the following:

"Don't be afraid of death; be afraid of an unlived life. You don't have to live forever, you just have to live."

That quote captures everything Winifred has taught us: how to live boldly, love fiercely, and find joy even when life doesn’t go as planned.
